Opening new roads for engineering education

A New Challenge for College of Engineering, Sogang University

The College of Engineering aims to foster highly skilled, highly driven engineers who will be transforming and driving the upcoming 4th Industrial Revolution. Each department is working with research centers, government agencies, and businesses to conduct collaborative industry-academia research, leading to innovative learning and handson-experience in the education process. Research interests include artificial intelligence (AI), internet-of-things (IoT), cloud computing, big data, and mobile technologies which are expected to play significant roles as next-generation growth engines.
1960-1995 Founding of Sogang Engineering
The College of Engineering was first established as the School of Science and Engineering at the time of Sogang University’s founding. After the additional creation of the departments of Electronic Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electronic Computing, and Mechanical Engineering, the College of Engineering was separated from the School of Science and Engineering to stand as its own school, there by establishing the infrastructure for new paradigms of engineering education.
1996-2009 College of Engineering at the
Core of Sogang University’s Growth
During this period, the department names have changed to Electronic Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. An extensive number of research projects and university-industry cooperation track programs have since been completed, such as the Brain Korea (BK) 21 Core Projects and the University Information Technology (IT) Research Center Incubation & Support Projects. Many distinguished engineers have come out of these research centers which have been jointly founded by the school and its corporate partners, resulting in significant contributions to the advancement of the Korean industry and IT research areas.
2010-Present Research led by Dedicated Talents
Since 2011, the College of Engineering has signed partnership agreements with a number of Korean enterprises, including Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, SK Hynix, and CJ Cheil-Jedang. Several research centers have also been founded, such as the Medical Ultrasonic Image Research Center and the Sogang-Harvard Disease Biophysics Research Center. The College of Engineering plays a major role in realizing the Sogang Spirit, which fosters talented individuals and enables them to lead advancements in the community.
